Manika Batra Bio

Manika Batra was born on 15th June 1995, she’s a professional table tennis player from Naraina Vihar, New Delhi. She had a liking of playing table tennis from a very small age, at the age 8 she won the under 8 state-level table tennis tournament. All thanks to the training she received from her coach named Sandeep Gupta. They’ve split now though.

Career

Batra has turned down multiple modeling offers from various companies. Batra is the one you call beauty and brains, back when she was 16 she was offered a scholarship at the Karlsson Academy in Sweden which she declined. She continued her studies at Jesus and Mary College and dropped out a year after to continue concentrating full-time on table-tennis.

In 2011, Manika won the silver medal in the Chile Open Under 21. She also represented India at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, where she finished as a quarterfinalist. In 2015, she won three medals at the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships. In 2016, she won three gold medals in 2016 south Asian games.

She also led the Indian women’s table tennis team to a gold medal, by winning against four-time champions Singapore. This was a big thing since the team Singapore had never lost any Commonwealth Games since the program’s inception back in 2002.

Batra and her teammate Mouma Das won the Indian’s maiden silver medal at 2018 Commonwealth Games. She became the first woman ever win a commonwealth table tennis singles gold medal in CWG 2018 where she beat Yu Mengyu of Singapore.

She received the “The Breakthrough Star Award” by ITTF on December 12, 2018.
